Environmental Biotechnology is a broad field, and a host to many different career opportunities. A few of these include careers in the following fields:
Biofuels- Biofuels are fuels made from organic material, such as corn or other cereal crops. This industry is expanding as our society is gaining more awareness of pollution and climate change, looking for agricultural engineers and scientists with a degree in biochemistry or microbiology to study this environmentally friendly option for transportation. The median salary for careers in this field range from $30, 000 to $71, 000. Bioremediation- Bioremediation is a new way of cleaning contaminated land using bacteria and other microbes. Working in Bioremediation would include researching, implementing, and overseeing these projects. The median salaries for this field of work are usually $60, 000 or higher. Agricultural Biotechnology- Agricultural Biotechnology is Environmental Biotechnology with a heavy emphasis on crops and farming. Agricultural Biotechnologists generally look at genetically modifying crops to make them more sustainable, pest and disease resistant, and increasing the quality and productivity. The median salary for this field of work is around $41, 000. |
